A simple guide to getting your home ready for painting
A little preparation before our crew arrives can make a big difference in how smoothly your project goes. Our team will take care of the painting preparation included in your scope of work, but there are a few things homeowners can do ahead of time to help us get started efficiently.
Your specific preparation requirements may vary depending on the project, and we'll let you know if there is anything special you need to take care of before we arrive.
What We Take Care Of
During the Project
Once our crew arrives, we'll handle the painting process and maintain a safe, professional work environment.
Depending on your project, you may experience:
Temporary access restrictions
Paint and product odours
Equipment and materials in work areas
Noise from preparation and sanding
Areas that need to remain undisturbed while coatings dry or cure
We'll do our best to minimize disruption and keep the work area organized throughout the project.
You don't need to do everything yourself.
Our team will complete the painting preparation included in your agreed scope of work, which may include protecting surfaces, preparing walls and substrates, filling and sanding, caulking, priming, and other required preparation.
The exact preparation required depends on the condition of the surfaces and your project scope.
If a condition requires additional work outside the agreed scope, we'll discuss it with you before proceeding.
A Few Things to Keep in Mind
Fresh Paint Needs Time
Paint may feel dry before it is fully cured. Avoid washing, scrubbing, or placing objects against newly painted surfaces until they’ve fully cured.
Don't Put Everything Back Immediately
Give painted surfaces time to properly cure before replacing furniture, hanging artwork, or returning items to their usual locations.
Be Mindful of Pets
Even when paint is dry to the touch, the work area may still contain equipment, materials, or surfaces that need additional drying or curing time.
Let Us Know About Concerns
If something doesn't look right or you have a question about the work, please speak with us before attempting to repair or alter the area yourself.
Special Considerations
Some projects require additional preparation or planning.
Exterior Projects
Before work begins, consider weather, landscaping, outdoor furniture, vehicles, and access around the home.
Cabinets
Cabinet projects may require kitchens, bathrooms, or other areas to be partially or completely unavailable during the project.
Doors
Doors may need to remain open or temporarily unavailable while coatings dry and cure.
Occupied Homes
If you live in the home during the project, we'll work with you to plan for access, ventilation, pets, children, and other considerations.
